MOVIN TRACIN · Setup & Installation
Connect TRACIN to MOVIN Studio
On this page
Goal of this chapter: MOVIN Studio finds TRACIN, and your license is verified.
MOVIN TRACIN and MOVIN Studio communicate over a direct Ethernet connection. From v3.2.0 (TRACIN firmware and MOVIN Studio), TRACIN is Plug & Play - MOVIN Studio finds the device automatically when it's connected with the Ethernet cable, with no manual IP setup.
On firmware older than v3.2.0?
Recommended: update your firmware first to unlock Plug & Play - see MOVIN TRACIN Firmware Update
Prefer to update later? You can still connect using manual IP setup - see Connecting with firmware older than v3.2.0.
Before you start
- TRACIN's front indicator is solid green (not blinking)
- TRACIN is connected directly to your PC with the Ethernet cable
- MOVIN Studio is on the latest version (v3.2.0 or later)
- Your PC is connected to the internet (needed for the license check)

-
Click Setup - Connect Device
- In the Playback Scene, click Setup in the left sidebar to open the Connect Device page.

⚠️ TRACIN not detected? Check these first
If MOVIN Studio can't find TRACIN, you won't be able to move on to the next step. Go through this list in order:
- Indicator light: the front indicator should be solid green. If it's off or blinking, unplug the power cable, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in. This quick reset solves most power-related issues.
- Direct connection: TRACIN must be connected directly to your PC using an Ethernet cable. Routers, switches, hubs or docks in between can cause detection failures.
- The right port: if your PC has two or more Ethernet ports, make sure the cable is in the port you're using for TRACIN.
- IP assignment set to Automatic:
- Windows: search “Ethernet” →
Settings > Network & internet > Ethernet→ under IP assignment, click Edit → select Automatic → Save. - Ubuntu:
Settings > Network→ delete any profile with a manual IP → create a new profile with IPv4 > Link-Local Only.
- Windows: search “Ethernet” →
- VPN off: TRACIN may not be detected while a VPN (e.g. Tailscale) is running. Disconnect it while using TRACIN.
- Ethernet cable: try another cable to rule out a faulty one.
- MOVIN Studio version: make sure it's up to date. To check your version, click the green button with your email account in the upper-right corner.
- System Monitor: in your browser, open
http://<serial number>.local:8001— your serial number is on the warranty card (e.g. serial MT-20XYZ →http://mt-20xyz.local:8001).- Page loads, but MOVIN Studio still doesn't continue? Unplug and replug the power cable, then click Find Device again.
If the problem persists even after trying all these steps, message us in #cs-chat on the MOVIN Discord. We're always here to help.
